This is my 72-year-old mom's Substack. I am helping her publish, but she does all the writing. She writes about her insights and stuff she's learned in her 72 years on this earth. She's a wife, mom, churchgoer, friend, and neighbor.
The problem of mass incarceration is near and dear to my heart. Sentences is a project to investigate mass incarceration—from arrest, to jail time, to prison sentence, and beyond.
This is my other Substack about my bro. He's 10 years younger than me and is currently in prison. I write about his past, present, and stuff about prison, in general.
When I thought no one was reading my stuff, Amanda jumped in and started talking to me out of nowhere. Her writing is from an autistic editor's point of view, which is super intriguing, but in general, I find her newsletters about the craft of writing and editing to be incredibly useful.
Claire is another Substacker who gave me tons of advice on how to grow and be more involved in this community. Her site is about "falling back in love with writing 'long form' in a place where it felt quieter and easier to share my voice.'" I love her podcasts too. Can't go wrong with an English accent, amite?
I love discovering new Substackers who help add their insights and discoveries to the process of writing. Check out Flight School, which is a safe place for writers of all levels.
I met Christine (a writing coach) in a memoir writing class and she is such a wealth of information when it comes to writing your story and all of the emotions we feel around it. Her memoir story is pretty incredible and I can't wait until she's done so I can read it!
If you're on Substack and haven't heard of Russell Nohelty's The Author Stack yet, you're in for a treat. The Author Stack is gives you tangible tips and advice about the craft of writing, growing your business and Substack following, marketing and publishing your book.
