I love this, and glad you're publishing at a pace that's sustainable for you! I've been on here since September but took a break for two weeks in December. I have to constantly remind myself that this is a long game for me, and I want to still love writing here years later.
Great tips here! I started this Substack with limited time and told myself I would only publish every 2 weeks, it works for a while, but I can't help being reminded (there's also this weekly writing streak reminder from Substack) that I should be writing weekly to grow. So I tried once to squeeze in a shorter post in between, but immediately I find I don't have enough time for my regular long post! Thanks for reminding that we can scale back when needed and also not needed to scale up!
Hi Rachel! Another thing I like to do is assess how long the post is (and they're usually really long) and then I'll slice them up into 2 or 3 posts and then pre-schedule them. (This post was originally 1 post ,but then I split it into two!). Also, you could save the shorter pieces for Notes, to engage folks there. (Not that I have tried that myself!) Last idea... write a paragraph (longer comment) on another person's Substack! I promise you'll start to see traction if you do it consistently (other ppl will see your comment and like/follow you!)
Thanks Claire for even more great tips! Sharing short thoughts in notes, that's a good idea especially I don't usually have that much to share there. I agree with the long thoughtful comments, I do that and I'll keep at it!
No problem! Also, if you don't have time to comment on another person's post, just hit the "restack" button and share it that way. People see it and will likely appreciate it. I know I do!
I wish I'd read a post like this when I first started out! Thank you for putting to words what it really feels like to try to post consistently (it's SO HARD and that feeling of dread can be so real and defeating). You are so real and awesome. THANK YOU.
Why hello beautiful lady! Thank you for your kind thoughts and right back atcha... YOU are totally awesome and I miss you! Trying to get Substacks done now that I am working full-time and trying to actually have a life (AND my mom broke her hip last week so I have been in Cali for the last week)... :/
My brain is like, "you need to write more Substacks" -- so I will make a commitment to publish consistently again.

Totally!! I'm currently taking a break from writing my book. :)
